Favorite Margarita variation?

10 months ago by RBWells to c/cocktails

I'm having a spicy margarita, one of my favorite variations on one of my favorite drinks. Actually with a splash of tepache, even better.

My hands down favorite is classic:

2oz tequila (any that I like)

1oz cognac based orange liqueur

1 oz lime

This one is same but half orange liqueur, half Ancho Reyes, I also really like it with Chinola Passionfruit instead of orange.

Any alternative you would recommend to the Ancho Reyes? It doesn't seem like I can get it here in Sweden :/ Maybe just a small piece of chili? Is that a sweet liqueur? Spicy margarita sounds really good!

It's sweet, and not super spicy, just a hint when used in a drink. I like it but my oldest daughter doesn't. Personally I would infuse orange liqueur with habanero, instead of trying to work one up with the dried ancho - much brighter flavor but good for margarita. I also often make a spicy fire tincture, infuse vodka with habanero for a week, then with anatto for a day, then strain. That adds "spicy" without a lot of other flavor and no sweet.

Interesting, I'll look into it. Thank you for the details!

A place for conversation about cocktails, ingredients, home mixology, the bar industry or liquor industry, glassware - this is not an exhaustive list. If you think it's in some way related to cocktails it's probably fine.

If you post something you didn't create give credit whenever possible.

Pictures and recipes are encouraged when posting a drink as a standalone post. Example of an ideal drink post:

We love garnishes.

Remember the code of conduct, keep it nice. In terms of cocktails- specific etiquette that might be different from other communities:

Mentioning your blog, insta, website, book or bar is allowed, yes. For now at least, we do allow self-promotion. If it gets out of hand this might change.

A good post with a drink you don't like is still a good post! Try not to conflate the drink and the post or poster. If someone has a relevant title, gorgeous photo and clearly formatted recipe of what you consider a truly terrible drink, a comment is more appropriate than a downvote.

On that topic: Polite critique/reviews of drinks (or posts, images, etc.) is allowed here. Encouraged , even. It's a good tool for improving your drinks and content. Really, just be nice.
