There’s something special about people who animals automatically fall in love with. I bet you’re a very loveable person.

Oh bet. I didn’t see that. That’s basically free in my book. Have you used that one before, and if so do you like it compared to the OGs (google maps, Apple Maps)

Yes, been excluded many times. The older I get the less I care to talk about what other people normally take about (work dramas, negative issues in their life, how their partner is trash, how it’s good America is “intervening” in other countries, etc). I used to just nod my head and smile and make a joke or 2. Now I actually speak my mind, and I tell my coworkers how negative they are, and they try to get me to talk negatively about my life and my partner and it never happens. That makes them mad for whatever reason, and now I’m not invited.

More room for positivity in my life!

Oh! Also, I’m using windows on my PC. And my phone is an iPhone.

I’m not using Linux yet, but that is in my todo list for the future! After I get more comfortable with some more basics of self hosting.

Your like the 4th person to recommend libreoffice. That’s at the top of my list now.

We’re not used to bragging about ourselves. So I’m assuming you, just like me, haven’t done it in years. But I’d say you did pretty good for your first time bragging! Also endurance and work capacity and very important in training. Kudos to you for being ahead of the curve!

Sheesh, that sounds like a Black Mirror episode. I know a majority of my info/data now is most likely compromised, but moving forward I can make a difference. Also, I can prep these tools for the young ones in my family who aren’t on the internet yet.

I definitely need some advice for self hosting! I literally have no idea what I’m doing. I have a raspberry pi and another user said that may be enough to get started.

Could you share some videos or links or blogs that explain how to get started?

That does slightly concern me that ddg is linked to Microsoft. If I’m going thru all this trouble to make my life more private then I believe I need to cut out the major companies as well.

Hell ya! I would definitely appreciate some hand holding thru this process! This self hosting stuff is going to take a bit longer and more learning than I anticipated.

-the opening the port process makes sense. It seems like if I have a backend on my rig, I’m going to need to open a port to access that backend from a front end of a phone device. Or possibly even access that same backend on the phone device via a mirror?

-it seems like it would be easier if I could connect to the rig via an android phone instead of an iPhone. My end goal is to use Linux but I’m not ready for that step. Seems like android would be an adequate stepping stone to move to, especially if we have to go thru all this trouble with iPhone. Shall we try on the android instead? If not I’ll follow the directions you put above and report back on Saturday.

There are 3 lines with the :11434 in them. No brackets or anything like that. -1 has 0.0.0.0 in front -2 has 10.#.#.# in front and has a foreign address that is something other than 0.0.0 -3 is like the 2nd but a slightly different foreign address

The iPhone does have a 10.#.#.# ip number that is slightly different than the PCs.

The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0

Oh yes. I’m on windows 10 as well.

I have taken a pause here while we trouble shoot the subnet mask. We’re getting close!!

That’s dope that you were able to climb the ladder relatively quickly wherever you are. I was also in a similar situation where I was in a work environment that wasn’t the best for my mental health. I’m glad you were able to find a place where you can still make some cash and protect your mental health
