Invincibility!

I just found a scan of the manual for Sonic 1 on the Master System, the first Sonic version I ever played, which refers to that monitor as “Invincible”

Went back to Mint a few times but ultimately I like Plasma over Cinnamon, so Debian it is!

Map Men / Jay Foreman

Interesting and genuinely amusing for about 15 years at this point.

The thing that really bugged me about Spore was how lame the “evolution” was.

If early developments in your creatures set certain things in motion that then played out differently that would be great and add replay value.

But nothing was meaningful at all, you could completely change stuff back and forth. Very little in your evolutionary history actually mattered, at all.

Nope, never.

I live in the UK, I’m in my 40’s and I’ve only ever known a single person who needed to be circumcised for medical reasons.

Beyond medical reasons, which are honestly pretty rare in reality, there’s no need.

I’ve literally never heard an uncircumcised person express a desire to be circumcised.

Because politics encompasses almost everything, to be truly politically neutral would mean having no strong views on anything in life.

It’s possible to be neutral on certain topics, but to be fully neutral you’d have to have no real opinions on economics, immigration, the military, the role of religion, equality, education…

So the quote is saying you can’t truly be neutral on everything, what specific things are you actually neutral on.

I was using Endeavour, btw. Needed almost zero tinkering and was good to go straight away.

But I run Linux on an ancient 2012 MacBook Pro, so eventually swapped over to Debian, btw.

This was all an incredible example of how incompetent a major democracy’s government can truly be.

Not only did they allow the single “leave” option to remain completely undefined, but they ran it as a simple “majority wins” referendum. So all those negotiations, all the arguments, all the billions spent and billions lost. It was all to achieve a supposed 4% increase in satisfaction.

Now 52% of the country could be happy instead of 48%. Game changing!

It was surreal being British and supporting “the other side” the whole way through. We were absolute clowns and outclassed in intelligence and decorum at every turn.

The Ramones.

If it’s been a while, I’ll listen to 5 tracks and be like “Yes, The Ramones!!!”

Then after a couple of tracks more I suddenly really need to put on something else.

Deadwood.

The movie to complete it is passable, but seasons 1-3 are 10/10.

No. Or maybe. Depending on your definition of each particular supernatural thing.

Do I believe that every “UFO” spotted in the sky is a craft from an alien race? No. However, do I believe people genuinely see things that can’t be explained or identified in the sky, that could plausibly be extraterrestrial, inter-dimensional or top secret in ways we generally don’t currently understand? Yes, absolutely.

Do I believe that we all have souls that exist outside our physical form, that persist after death? Absolutely not. But do I believe people who aren’t lying genuinely see people or entities that we would generally refer to as “ghosts”? Yes. But beyond believing people really do “see” these things, I don’t know if they are always hallucinations or if people are witnessing some kind of other phenomena.

I’m a sceptic at heart. There’s nothing I won’t believe for ideological reasons, but evidence is key. Things that there is currently no evidence for could theoretically still exist, but will always require proof for me to actually believe in.

Yep. I was using Plasma on Mint for a while but the consensus was you’re best off using a DE officially supported by the distro.

Never encountered any issues personally up to that point, but seemed to be the majority opinion when I researched it.

But my most recent switch was from Endeavour, so made much more sense to install Debian 13 than to Install Mint and then immediately switch DE.

With explicit rules against even mentioning this.

Sonic CD.

For years and years it was a mythical sonic game, a rare golden-era game hardly anyone had got to play. And I’d slightly mis-remembered it appearing way more advanced and fluid than a mega drive game.

After being obsessed with Sonic in my youth, after finally getting to play it, it just felt like a less enjoyable Sonic 1.

I’ve never even bothered to finish it.

Was shocked to discover very recently that it’s meant to be “It’s over 8000!”, and 9000 was a mistranslation

Probably Deadwood.

I like the complexity of the characters - nobody’s truly good, nobody’s truly bad.

I like the how some of the experiences in the show are so universal and some are so peculiar to that time and place.

The performances are all incredible.

I was completely taken with it and still am.
