Code Geass is just a gem imo, it’s so over the top and kinda bullshit at times, but the cast of characters are so fleshed out and fun. It’s a mecha but it’s not purely about mechas so your perception was on point imo. It’s one of the few series I’ve rewatched multiple times throughout my life and I’ve walked away with new interpretations and appreciations with each run through. The overarching military parts that happen behind the scenes didn’t even really make much sense for me originally until I had already seen it a few times.

For Muv-luv: Alternative specifically:

Tap for spoiler

I believe it takes two or three episodes to get rolling, there is a big twist that takes the show in another direction that happens after the first episode. I got to see it drop live in person with the director there and everything at AX as one two/three part episode. I want to avoid actually spoilering it for you. It’s not what you’re thinking though.

Knights of Sidonia probably is better as a manga, the art style wasn’t my favorite either but the story itself was solid.

Happy to help!

It’s a bad deal that only policy could really fix at this point.

If you’re the only store with real menu prices then customers just get price shocked at what they’re actually going to be paying when they can go next door to another restaurant that doesn’t tell you the full price up front. Customers would be upset at a mid $18 burger, but are fine with a mid $16 burger + $2 tip.

Imo, the problems stem from the forced rat race of no one having enough money excluding the rich. Prices being high wouldn’t matter if people got paid more, but cause we’re not getting paid more, the companies that target the general population just make everything into cheap knockoff crap to still turn the same or better profit margins.

My favorites that hit on the more futuristic/fantasy military themes are:

  • Code Geass
  • Muv-Luv: Alternative
  • Knights of Sidonia

Most of the other ones I saw recommended hit more closely to what you’re looking for, but I wanted to provide a few military adjacent series since they do still include battle tactics and planning.

I’ve been off Reddit for awhile; when I looked over the past week it seems much deader.

Posts are getting much less engagement there than they were for the past few years, imo. Take my opinion with a grain of salt though cause that’s just for the most front page communities I happened to visit.

I hate to say it but I think that’s the point of why some people, mostly bots, brigade.

Imo, it’s a 4chan/discord/twitter style of attack to foster cult-like behaviors. It’s often purposeful done to drive out dissenters and it simultaneously makes it appear like your opinion is widely shared, while in reality it could be a very vocal minority, alt-accounts chiming in, or bots doing the brigading.

Many Lemmy communities have done a decent job so far at keeping bots out imo, which is something other social media platforms like Reddit don’t even attempt at doing at scale since it inflates active account numbers.

One would hope, but unless greed and the obsession with power is not in our genes there would always be people that try to exploit others. Just like there will always be others trying to end the exploitation.

Imo, better systems and fair work agreements are how we put a stop to most exploitation being acted upon.

The only thing that exists here is user level upvotes/downvotes.

Lemmy lets you see how many times you’ve liked another person’s previous comments/posts. So your personal score appears next to people for you to see only. I like this more this a karma system since it makes Lemmy a bit more tight knit.

I’ve been surprised a few times now though with users I’ve liked in the past making comments that were not so great down the line, but it makes me have to accept the reverse as well. Some people I must have really disagreed with in previous conversations have almost made great points and I ended up agreeing with them in those instances.

TL;DR: Not everyone’s perfect but people can grow and it’s good to give them room to do so was my takeaway.

That we can have bullet trains, but not here apparently for no reason other than greed.

This is the type of statement to commend. It’s a big risk for Seth to openly step away from AIPAC, as they may try to primary him for doing so. Hopefully this will encourage others in leadership positions to follow suit.

This also shows that the pressure we are putting on is working. I believe this same pressure should be kept up, and we should continue to give politicians the chance to walk away from these pro-Israel PACs or face being primaried if they do not.

Fast food likely would have been fine… if wages increased as much as the prices did.

The fact that the minimum wage doesn’t increase every year, yet prices do, meant that this was always going to be a recipe for disaster.

I feel like you hear the top line because those specific liberals are trying to convince independents, moderates, conservatives, and people on the right to agree on at least something. Many of the people they’re trying to convince would give a big “NO” if they didn’t include that 40 hours part.

The fact that there isn’t even a “YES” with the 40 hours part caveat is the bad sign.

I don’t think most of the people labeled as liberals would disagree with what the people labeled leftist are saying, but their trying to convince the other people that aren’t even bought in to the first step.

This is also an issue where the people that don’t want to help others have over 50% of the power in the US federal government currently.

Our energy should be focused on bringing these progressive help options to everyone at the state level right now to have the greatest chance of getting these programs implemented.

I feel it’s a bit tacky as a first question, but if I’m not asking it at some point I personally feel like I’m not making a real effort to know someone.

For a lot of people I think it’s just their go-to ice breaker since most people have a job or some kind of education they are involved in.

I personally really enjoy hearing about many people jobs since they really open my eyes to a different lifestyles and working environments out there, or I might get the scoop on workplace drama stories.

Maybe it’s just the area you’re in or the sample size? All my married friends are loving it, myself included.

I wake up and see my best friend everyday, how cool is that?

A life jacket is what can help save you once you exhaust yourself fighting against a torrent of water. If you need to do something a bit reckless to save yourself or someone else, then it can help you catch your breath a bit and keep your head above water.

The thing is, if you are needing to rely on a lifejacket, the situation may already be a bit desperate. If you are able to get some kind of an early warning system, then that will go a lot farther at helping you get to safety. Getting a lifejacket could help make a difference if you are in a potential flood zone.

If I recall correctly, Aristotle proposed something like only the educated being able to vote. I think if everyone was guaranteed free access to both a high school and college education, along with all food and living costs covered for anyone studying, then I could see having at least any associates level degree being an okay barrier of entry to voting.

However, such a thing would need to be protected by some unremovable barriers. For instance, education would need to continue receiving appropriate funding, food and other living costs such as renting a room would need to be covered even as the cost for these things change. People with disabilities would need to receive proper accommodations.

A caveat I’ll add is that there would need to be more community colleges built and much more funding for pre-K thru 12th grade as well.

I’m skeptical that Harris is the front runner the DNC pushes, they might but I believe we could see a split over Harris, Walz, or Newsome as the front runner in 2028.

Someone like AOC could throw their hat in the ring, which could work but they would have to do hardball quite a lot to get any progressive legislation passed federally. The courts would be trying to check the EO power and be much more limiting than they are currently.

AOC has a message that people want is a key thing. Harris kept it too safe to really sway anyone that wasn’t already sold, unfortunately. That’s not to say Harris didn’t have a published policy list, but it wasn’t what people were seeing or hearing. If Harris came out as a progressive, which I believe she was, then I think she would have swayed middle America.
