@GreenShimada old thin clients or similar (google Project TinyMiniMicro for a decent guide!) are perfect for this use case. x86, most of them have intel quicksync for transcoding, they are energy efficient and quiet.

@FEIN buy something for routing and firewalling, and then something else for wifi.

place wifi access points (with a wired backhaul aka cable) near where you use wifi the most. add more access points to cover your appartment/house as needed.

I use two ancient tp-link eap 245v3 in my house, one per floor, and they are "dumb APs" only translating wifi to cable back to my switch and router. then a firewall/router.

you don't need much spec-wise. at my moms place I have a small SBC with two rj45 ports for routing/firewalling and similar dumb APs for wifi, and that setup manages their gigabit connection without issue.

@InternetCitizen2 Strawberry can also stream from Subsonic-compatible servers, which Navidrome is.

Navidrome does not support a traditional file system browser, but relies entirely on metadata in your music library. So if that is a mess, navidrome wont be as nice as it can be. Beets or Picard can mitigate that issue.

@InternetCitizen2 it's an older meme, but it checks out...

I am not sure about the relationship between strawberry and amarok, but it looks like strawberry just carbon copied amaroks interface from _way back_.

@eli k8s does involve learning something new, yes. But that knowledge makes you attractive on the job market if you work in tech.

K8s isn’t that heavy resource wise on small clusters. The perk is to have one way to deploy workloads in different clusters.

@irmadlad @curbstickle_lw some DSLRs actually had hardware modules for GPS, like the Nikon GP-1. I have one but haven't used it much (felt dangerous to have it stick out all the time) so can't say much about it.

@irmadlad "professional" cameras frequently has RJ45 for networking, so you get reliable transmission in a crowded arena et c.

I run my camera in airplane mode. I am not happy with the fact that my camera has wifi builtin and therefore almost has to run in airplane mode...

@patthecat @selfhosted miniflux has a save button you can integrate with a lot of other apps. I’m using it with readeck.
