1000 bucks in this economy is a tough ask ngl. I was thinking about it as a emulation console, putting emudeck on that thing and have all my games on it could've been a blast, but for 1k ... idk. I think I could put together a decent SFF PC for less than 1k, especially because I got some old DDR4 RAM lying around lol.

tbf if you expected anything else than upscaled 1k you were kinda delusional. This is a SoC, not a dedicated GPU. No matter what kind of black magic Valve or AMD did to that thing, there's no way it would've delivered great 4k performance.

I don't think "selfhosting" and "paid for" goes hand in hand because, at the end of the day, the application somehow will still contact some authentication server or some similar bullshit. That's the contrary of what most people want from selfhosting.

You might be, but at the end of the day, does it matter? The core point of gaming is to have fun, no matter how long you need. As long as you're not frustrated by the game, I think that's fine.

Maybe the game also isn't for you - there's so many different genres. Some people are shit at soulslike games, and there is nothing wrong with NOT enjoying a game. They might enjoy something different.

Now, what I personally have a gripe with is people being shit at games and crying online that it's "too hard" and they NEED to make it easier instead of, you know, not playing the game they apparently have no fun with. But in your case - take all the time you need, have fun and if you start to not have fun, stop the game.

With the crashes, idk, but that could be fixable by asking in communities for the game or maybe submitting a bugreport directly to the developer.

Shattered Pixel Dungeon is SO good. It's horrendously difficult early on because you don't know what you're doing, but once you got a grasp it's so fun.

The game was a fucking dumpster fire on release, but honestly, I really enjoyed the item grind with nuclear bombs and the build system. I was building some really cool houses back then and I probably spend a vast majority of my time with that.

Haven't touched it in years tho. Idk how it is today.
