The reddit CEO caring about money would actually be a step up. They would realize that the content is what keeps people on the site, and that free labor provided by community mods actually saves them tons of money.

I don’t see why. They could - for example - have injected adverts into the API feed and made it a licensing condition that adverts were displayed inline in mobile clients.

Lol, that's not going to work. Even if there isn't code to block the action he'll just undo it because fuck it.

It would still be good for a laugh though. If any mods want to try it they should document it to see what happens at least. I assume such actions will mean they person doing it will at minimum have their mod access taken away. I wouldn't be surprised if the attempt led to a ban.
