Your first arcade racer?

2 years ago by Chris to c/arcaderacing

Mine was Formula 1 Simulator on the C16. I may have played others before then but this is the first I remember, and I played it loads.

The first game I ever begged my parents to buy.

Might be Midnight Club. PS2 is where I got in.

I forgot to say, it's by Shaun Southern - who went on to create the Lotus series.

Night Driver on the 2600.

Presumably set at night to justify the lack of graphics? (I've not played it, but suspect if they'd added any sort of scenery the 2600 wouldn't have been able to cope)

Yep. It was pretty clever. Used the paddle controller for steering. As a kiddo I loved it.

Gran Turismo 2, most likely. Or Toca2, depending on how wide your definition of arcade racer is.

Honestly I was too young to read so I have no idea what it was called but I do remember it was at a Pizza Hut with an arcade machine.

From what I CAN remember, my all time childhood favourite was Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition Remix. I had a pair of pimped out flower power pink and blue H1 Hummers with “Real Big - Mannie Fresh” blasting as I crashed into the gas station so it would explode XD

I remember being a big fan of the Nissan 350Z and Dodge Viper GTS-R, refused to crash those on purpose.

I honestly can't remember. They were generally more than one tokens and seemed real cool but I was never into them and only played them sporadically.
