Yea the admins noted recently that whoever is running the attacks knows about lemmy's weak spots, so it tracks that it's a disgruntled user base. That being said, I wouldn't underestimate how easy it is for someone with a chip on their shoulder to figure out these weak spots, so it could be anyone really.

I haven't noticed an issue, I connect through a different instance.
If you're having problems, definitely make an account on a smaller instance and migrate your subs using LASIM.
You'll have a much better experience.

This post breaks rules 1 and 3, but basically what the other comments said. It's the biggest instance so it's the biggest target. Some weeks ago there was a guy squatting community names and they got banned, after which they spammed new communities with random names, and the instance has been DDOS'd repeatedly. TBH no hard feelings towards lemmy.world, but I've switched to another one, used lemmy-migrate, and just resumed my scrolling. It's not really worth it to stay there at the moment.
lemmy world is very unstable. I recommend getting off lemmy.world into other smaller instances.
