More riffy than specifically tappy, but get on Alpha Male Tea Party. Physics House Band are a wonderful mix of math and jazz. Cleft were amazing and the dear departed Dan Wild-Beesley is genuinely missed.

@Mbourgon I have a big long playlist of Japanese math rock here https://open.spotify.com/..., quite a few of them will fit your description (off the top of my head, JYOCHO, Paranoid Void, Uchu Conbini, but there's loads more in there). Outside Japan, some bands you may like are DJ Perro (Mexico), Elephant Gym (Taiwan), CHON, Floral (USA). I could go on... π
