Did you see the shitshow it was created when the admin posted a message asking for donations to lemmy developers? Including many people from outside the instance

Honestly I think that was the tipping point for them to throw up the towel

It became too much for them to manage. They locked it during the Spez dump. Seems like the strategy worked for their mod team.
