Did the entire server get put on Alexandrite by default, and how do I get off Alexandrite and go back to default Lemmy UI?

a year ago by Elevator7009 to c/meta

I typed in "ani.social" in my phone browser, expecting to see the normal Lemmy UI. Instead I'm confronted with the Alexandrite front end. I don't think I clicked anything to give me this front end; I think it's a total surprise to me, it's possible I'm an idiot who missed something and accidentally clicked a setting. Asking for help here after clicking around in more settings trying to figure out how to turn it off.

I'm on Safari on my cellphone. Trying another browser, weirdly enough, makes it normal again. Thanks!

Interesting. I don't have an Apple device to test Safari but I'll do some research on what's going on.

Okay, 14 days later my ani.social is back to normal on Safari!

🤔 I'll test the other FE for a few days, there was two reasons I stopped using interstellar that I resumed back with lemmy. Iirc one of them was not allowing my diverse input method: need shavian, UTF-16, CJK, markdown support, etc..

not op.

Alexandrite:

Pros:

  • Emojified UI
  • Compactness
  • Subscriptions on sidebar.
  • IME 𐑢𐑻𐑒𐑕.
  • theme customization (AMOLED true dark, hue control)
  • Language posting autoselected (英語です)
  • Hotkeys

Cons:

  • no attachment emoji on «Comment» field
  • broken external article import

Neutral:

  • Infinite scrolling

INSTA-🙅‍♀️ on ϕton. It crunched sized attachments.

Tesseract
Pro:

  • OpenDyslexic
  • color system
  • pseudopfps
  • IME friendly
  • Emojified UI
  • Compactness

Con:

  • disallowing me to zoom in manually.
  • URL button inserts "url" wo/autofocus
  • load times
  • inbox collapsed,
  • ↳ mark to [have] read.
  • no language selected

photon.ani.social's on a old version that uses a different way of lemmy's resizing, they're ~11 months out of date

I could potentially add an option to waste heaps of bandwidth and load full images for everything (like everyone else, including lemmy-ui) but it seems wasteful

Maybe give the option then, default to crunching. But I like the card system in Alexandrite & lemmy, that auto expands the post. I enrolled here because I enjoy my instance’s «Local» posts, so I would be wasting (2 Bw Post ×) for the local feed if I expanded every post.

For «All», sure I can see the (subs clients posts Bw ×) savings, but not «local.»

Yeah I haven't updated Photon in quite a while. Updated just now! Thanks!

oh lol, thanks.

Yeah Φton is an instant “nah” for me. But funny that the other two I prefer broke that necessary component of lemmyverse.
