The deployment of the USS Gerald R Ford marks a major escalation in what the US says is a campaign to target drug traffickers.

The US is deploying the world's largest warship towards the Caribbean, marking a major escalation in its military build-up in the region.

Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the USS Gerald R Ford aircraft carrier, which can carry up to 90 aircraft, to move from the Mediterranean on Friday.

The US has been increasing its military presence in the Caribbean in recent weeks, sending other warships, a nuclear submarine as well as F-35 aircraft in what it says is a campaign to target drug traffickers.

For a man that doesn't like war, he's very close to creating a war, hey?

Which then leads to the convenient excuse of suspending the 2026 midterms

It won't be a war. They're baiting out a response and might respond to that with a decapitation strike... There's no shot this turns into a war, it's Venezuela

Realistically, they're just creating instability with this while unleashing the CIA to do their things

This war will probably be more one sided than a war against most other countries. They can probably wipe out most Venezuela's military equipment fairly quickly, while Maduro is hated enough by various militias that the US might not need to risk too many ground troops. It's probably the easiest war the US could wage right now. Killing Maduro is the only part that could be difficult, but it could also not be.

Not meaning to be awkward, but either way it's still a war...
