There are places around my house that aren't super easy to rake. I'll probably still have some from last fall when they start coming down again this year.

As others mentioned already, they definitely won't be gone by the end of winter. Your lawn probably will be though, because if you have heavy leaf fall it'll smother the grass.
Maybe it'd be better if we all just let things happen and let native plants run wild, but culturally we aren't there yet.
For now I just compost them.
If you live anywhere that gets snow, those leaves aren't going anywhere until almost the next summer, and like you said they're taking the grass with it.
OP and anyone voting this up probably live in apartments with no yards.
The bigger problem is the lack of a functional ecosystem in yards. They don’t biodegrade with the same speed because the bugs, fungi, and other organisms have been decimated (by raking leaves, in part).
I get that not everyone wants all of these things in their cookie-cutter suburban HOA yard. But it sure would be nice if we got a little closer to being in harmony with nature.
It’s a little silly how much we fight it, if you don’t have the preconceived notion that every yard should look a certain way. I know people who live in nature and still try to recreate their suburban yard despite being literally surrounded by q functioning ecosystem. They spend countless hours fighting it with all sorts of chemicals, non-native seeds, and water. Just for it to look worse than the hill on the other side of the ravine that literally no one has maintained in decades.
Paper bags
It's almost like the meme was by someone who didn't have to deal with leaves.
Just mow them into your lawn
Agreed for some leaves. Not so much for Magnolias.
Where I am I just have to take them into the street and they bring a big vacuum to take them.
Or yard waste goes in paper bags which can be composted, burned or whatever they do with it.
Or they get burnt. It's not legal to burn a pile of leaves where I am but some neighboring areas you still can. I often use them as fire starter material in my fire pit.
thanks for using Leebra!

The fact that I have leaves in my yard in the spring tells me this is a lie. Yes they will biodegrade, but without "mulching" them, not that quickly.
