Several communities I tried to join are stuck on "SUBSCRIBE PENDING" after 2+ days. Any thoughts?

This includes all of the @beehaw.org communities I tried to subscribe to. It also includes all BUT ONE of the @lemmy.world communities I tried to subscribe to. (https://feddit.uk/c/syncforlemmy@lemmy.world did let me subscribe.)

What's the holdup? Do community owners get to decide whether I can subscribe? Is it something to do with the domains? Is it a local issue? I don't understand what's happening.

As far as I know, it's a visual glitch and you are actually subscribed. Posts made to these communities should still be showing up in your main feed when you select 'subscribed' - At least that was the case for me with my pending ones.

Oh hey, you're right! Posts from those "pending" communities are actually showing up in my feed.

Yeah, I have a lot not showing up as subscribed for me too. The number of users has jumped by half a million in a day so I suspect some systems might be creaking under the strain a bit. I'm going to check back in a week.
