Duplicate objects when dragging in Inkscape?

Is it possible in Inkscape to duplicate an object by dragging it while holding down a modifier key? I have found conflicting answers through web search, and have tried every combination of keys to no avail.

@5teverin0 you should be able to "stamp" copies of objects by dragging the objects and pressing the Spacebar on the places where you want a copy.

Yes. Tap the Spacebar during the drag, to get a copy at that position.

It's a very quick way to create lots of copies at different positions.
