TIL that Reddit has achievements

Why? Do they think this is a videogame??

Bluegrass_Addict 15 points 9 months ago

it's just manipulation. people need stupid little things that don't matter for.. reasons.

it's like videogames. people can't just play and beat the game, they NEED achievements to tell them they are doing a 'good job' so they feel rewarded or whatever.

Achievements could be helpful if done right. They may help people discover interesting things about a game. I personally love RetroAchievements. It's a FOSS project driven by the community to add achievements to old games.

That's not the case with Reddit, of course 😅 They do it to increase engagement because it correlates with profit.

To keep you engaged posting content. There's literally something called a streak and you are supposed to post some content everyday to get a longer streak
