Green energy tech ETFs - Worth investing?

6 months ago by ZombieCyborgFromOuterSpace to c/Wallstreetbets

I've been thinking of buying shares in an ETF like CTEC (https://www.globalxetfs.com/funds/ctec) with everything that's going on. I'm willing to bet that within the next decade, there will be an acceleration of transitions towards green energy technologies.

What's your opinion on this?

I still firmly believe alternatives for lithium batteries will be the best step in sustainable energy. Currently there's a huge surplus of green energy like wind and solar that has nowhere to go. Lithium has its downsides (cobalt and lithium mines, graphene) so something new and more dense is needed. I read sometimes, a bit buried away, about solid state batteries and stuff like sulfur natrium combinations. I bought BASF (the building blocks), CATL (the research) and the L&G battery tech ETF. Only CATL has really been profitable so far. Especially when the straight of Hormuz closed it jumped up.

I think I had invested in a battery or lithium ETF (Global X if I remember) and it really performed poorly.

Also with what happened to a local project here in Québec with NorthVolt and how that company lost so much value because it had a huge stock of lithium and that resource's value dropped in the past few years, I would stay away from that kind of ETF.

With the solid state batteries, like you mentioned, it might use different materials or less rare materials like lithium. Also, China holds a massive stock of batteries and materials to build them like graphite. There's a big chance China might flood the market very soon and might bring the prices way down.

Anything about stocks, and the economy, and how to gamble with option on it. "Hodl", and "to the moon" meme are welcome, as long it is not another conspiracy about the short squeeze of all time, or whatever bullshit born from "that" stock

Warning: Gambling is an addiction, consult about it if you are concerned.
