D&D might be going back to the way 5e began — and that could change everything

This seems like an idea with potential, but I have great faith in WotC's ability to shoot themselves in the foot, repeatedly.

I come from AD&D II, and when I tried D&D 5e, I was shocked by the overburdened complexity. Combat has become total bloat: somehow, they had decided that every move ever seen in a movie combat should somehow be possible in D&D. The only positive thing I could see was that AC goes up instead of down. The rest? Complexity on top of complications.
