FAS might be able to convince jury to lower sentences, im not so sure about autism. because FAS of various degrees can significantly affect cognitive function, or intelligence.

Once studies have concluded, decades later, they are just usually held until death - if not sent somewhere at an age where they pose no threat to anyone anymore, the benchmark being posing a threat to children.
