UK Post Thinking of getting the UGREEN NAS DX4800 Plus 4-Bay 10GbE opinions please?

My First ever post on lemmy ;-)

Got a new job, so I’m thinking of treating myself to a NAS. I’ve just been using an Nvidia Shield with a USB M.2 stick for now, which has done the job, but I want to store more content offline. I’m curious how this would perform for Plex transcoding, as my goal is eventually to host my own content on it. Just for my own consumption while on holidays etc.

I do have some 4K content, but I mostly watch TV series from my collection, so I’d still like the ability to stream 4K to my TVs around the house.

I also know the IronWolf series of HDDs are considered among the best for data storage, but which drives should I be considering specifically for Plex?

If you do have some fast HDDs or can buy them, then this looks like a good starting point. But, I would consider buying more expensive version of this device with more pre-installed RAM and bigger SSD if it is possible.

It seems to be all just 8gb ones on amazon from what I see but I persume you can expand on the plus and pro models

I just think that buying prebuild systems may be cheaper than expanding RAM yourself, because of current prices on standalone RAM kits.

I use a NAS for Plex, I use the same HDD's although I have a Synology 2 bay. 2 x 8Gb.

I know Synology gets some hate, I've not had any problems with it thus far.

How much content do you have in order to have 4 HDD's

That'll be relatively expensive unless you do the Amazon scam, hypothetically speaking of course

Synology gets hate for trying to get people to buy proprietary drives not so much reliability.

What is the hypothetical Amazon scam? I’ve never heard of this.

Just regular old return fraud, putting something of same weight and keeping the drive or something else?
