KCCC is Voting on Killing Part of the Plaza Today

5 months ago by FlashMobOfOne to c/kansascity

As I understand it, an out of state developer from Texas is angling to get the building sandwiched in between Jackstack and Cheesecake Factory approved for demolition and redevelopment.

To make another ugly-ass apartment building. They're just ignoring that these buildings are over a century old, irreplaceable, and I'm certain they won't make this motherfucker adhere to the Plaza's unique aesthetic either.

Even though there's a gaping, seven year-old mud hole on the other side of the Plaza where the last out-of-state developer made a deal they reneged on and destroyed half of our movie theater before leaving us with the mud hole.

I'm finding the literal and figurative destruction of the world particularly overwhelming today. The people who represent us don't even pretend to do so anymore.

The vote is at 2PM on the 26th floor of city hall, and if you can go... please please go and help pack the room.

There's an outside chance that a show of strength might sway some votes, since some of the bastards on city council are angling for higher office.
