I just never had friends or got invited to parties because I was already antisocial and shy...

I have GenZ kids and while I felt like I was over-involved (by my mom's standards) they say they thought I was very lasseiz-faire, permissive, because I did not track them on their phones or make a curfew - they were not idiots so I didn't have to.
They are all more social than I ever was, and when they went to college saw the results of the strict parenting and came back saying thank you , because all the sheltered kids were out of control once they didn't have someone controlling them.
My house growing up was the house everyone came to, with a few exceptions. But those exceptions were people who lived less maybe a block or two away. We had friends over quite a bit.
Even then, I still turned out shy and kinda asocial.

No one can come over because parents can’t handle the social stress of strangers coming over.
