Morphe users are now patching streaming apps beyond YouTube to skip ads on Android TV

Morphe users are now creating patches designed to remove ads from streaming apps like Paramount Plus and Disney Plus on Android TV.
HeyJoe 66 points a month ago

"A Reddit user says they used Claude to create Android TV patches for Paramount Plus that remove ads from the streaming experience. Disney Plus patches are also already available."

When forcing us to use AI and it didnt make you any profit, and now it's helping to take more of it away. Gotta love it sometimes!

I'm still running revanced, I can't even imagine YouTube without it, holy crap, it filters out so much noise

It's the same thing but newer. My understanding is the ReVanced lead dev left and started it or something. I don't think ReVanced has been updated in quite a while. Morphed looks identical.

The first rule of YouTube cracks is you have to start drama and create a schism every 3 years.

tbf vanced got nuked by Google, dunno how many of the devs moved to revanced under a new name though lol.

I think morphe is a bit less techy oriented. They have a simple mode but honestly I haven't used it so idk how simple it is.

I mean, all I remember is clicking a singular button named "patch" and it worked.

It's less techy-oriented in the sense that it does what you want cleanly and in a streamlined way. It's kind of tap-and-done where ReVanced is a crumbling mess that breaks if you look at it wrong.

Before I found out about morphe, I was already not too pleased with revanced. Idk this is around 1 month after the revanced sub reddit mods post some cryptic crap abputbdrama or something without saying the name morphe.

Anyways, I found out about universal revanced manager, where I can also track and use other patches for other apps (or YouTube, like RVX) then suddenly revanced and some others can't update on universal.

Looked into the rv sub again, somehow found put about morphe, and it's history. Couldn't have dropped rv faster morphe is just a lot more smoother and straightforward.

Of course being already somewhat competent the foolproof simple mode for morphe confused me lol. Wdym I just click 1 button and everything's done? What happened to downloading my own apk? Choosing the patches?

Well you can, and also use other people's patches for other apps too. Just have to activate the expert mode.

I am still thinking about moving to it. Im tired of firestick and roku. Theres not really much else either from what i looked at. Just some 3rd party hardware builds with android tv on it. A few look really good as well. Sure it costs a bit more, but im tired of giving those companies all my data and they aren't perfect either.

The nvidia shield is amazing. My 7(?) year old shield runs amazing. It's a beast, runs everything, and just works.

Weirdly enough i never even considered that one. It is pricier than what i want to spend. The others i found are about $80-$100 while this is $200 from what i see. Ill definitely consider it if it is that good.

I have a regular and a pro. The regular is $150, and I like more. The pro is a little more temperamental, I'm guessing due to its ability to serve content. The extra $50 for the shield over a random other device is really worth it.

Just get a small PC or an RPi or something and bypass the "smart" TV environment entirely! A wireless mouse, and sometimes a wireless keyboard was all I needed to make mine work

I have a pi and i also have had a pc to a tv setup. They have there purposes, but having a dedicated device thats semi cheap for a tv so the kids can easily navigate using a remote to play videos is more ideal and practicul. My main tv for me is a tv connected one and i mainly use kodi through it. Never used a pi for this type of setup, but i have a few for other things that are stand alone with no screens.

For the Pi-curious, I recommend LibreELEC. It's "just enough Linux OS to run Kodi" and uses a Kodi plugin to manage said OS. It can be locked into kiosk mode with just the kids' shows and unlocked for full access.

I did the same but with waydroid's android tv build. It is a bit buggy and setting it up was not easy (using adb sendkey to increase volume on first setup...) but works fine. I switched to it cuz the android tv stick we had was slow as molasses but I wanted something to replicate the ease of use of it. It even works with the remote of the stick after remapping! I installed it when it was new & had android 11, now it is 16 and I assume much better now.

At the weekend I installed KDE Neon unstable in a VM to play with the revamped Plasma Bigscreen mode. I'm empted to install it on a 2011 Mac mini I have to see how it fares, though I've not yet found any apps that work properly with it. Which is fair, it's very new.

But the basis of it seems like a pretty solid alternative as a media centre.

Has anyone used Morphe with a google login? I've been trying it without one and seems good enough, but still want access to my subs and watch list. Just want to know if its ok to use with your google account, or does it trigger google in some way that might end up restricting or blocking your account?

Yes, you just need to install microg.

Thanks, I already had microg (otherwise it would let me launch morphe), just wanted to make sure I wouldn't have any issues. Seems fine, will give it a try later.

So far it's still safe to use with an account.

On the bright side my recommended videos are all out of whack, in a good way.

I don't get suggested videos way out of my subscriptions and interest, but I also get less suggested videos based on my interests and get old videos from my subs and videos I've watched lol.

Thanks! That's what I wanted to know. Will give it a shot later.

The recommendation thing sounds interesting, might have to do with morphe removing some tracking which throws off the recommendation algorithm.

I asked a few friends about their YouTube recommendations, since they're less militant screwing with YouTube.

It seems to be a YouTube wide issue right now. Their recommendations are also similar to mine. Showing older videos within their interests, and old videos they've watched. Tbf this is just a sample of 3 so it's still anecdotal so take it with a grain of salt.

Now that you mention it, I think I've experienced something similar. At least I have seen way more old videos I've watched before as recommendations. Seems like a YouTube issue then

Has anyone used Morphe with a google login?

I do πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Been using Vanced, Revanced, and now Morphe for many, many years now, all using my Google login. No issues.

And just FYI - Google 100% knows about these projects, including Morphe. The original Vanced mod fell apart because they tried to monetize it (they still deny that, but anyone paying attention at the time knew they were full of shit), which is when Google decided to take action. That's when the Revanced project came into the picture. Then they got full of themselves and drama happened, so now we have Morphe.

Thanks for sharing your experience with it! I'll give it a try soon then, since it seems very safe given what yours and other replies have told me.

For sure google knows about these projects, it doesn't take longer than a few minutes of research to find it. It seems similar to Microsoft's situation with activation, they obviously know about it, but the risk of false positives or loss of convenience screwing regular users is not worth recovering the value lost to a few mod users.

Tubular still works. I see LibreTube was updated this month as well.

Eventually, patched official clients stop working too, necessitating a new app download, repatch, and reinstall...
