'Widow's Bay' On How Show Began As 'Parks & Rec' Episode

right, there is comic relief for sure, but i would never call it a “comedy”. The IT movies also had comic relief.
I don’t think it was just comic relief. I think it started off much goofier, and then had a tone shift throughout the first season, where the comedy shifted into more psychological thriller. I think it was used to misdirect the viewer so that the psychological thriller aspect had a bigger impact. I think it was quite effective, especially the whole parks and rec style incompetence of the mayor and the administration staff. In the beginning, and set their idiocy up as one of the biggest threats and the disbelief that curses are real, both of them obstacles to be overcome.
It’s a little different than sprinkling a little bit of comic relief here and there like some other thrillers do. This was written into the entire structure of the first season.

look, i like this show. but i don’t understand why they keep trying to push the idea that it’s a comedy.
