I'm not so sure this was engraved vs stamped out.

Look at the very center of the chest, where the horizontal line touches the large oval underneath. The lines don't line up around what's apparently some sort of welded/soldered seam.

If the pattern was engraved directly on the otherwise finished blank armor, then those lines would definitely line up.

That's actually a tiny octopus. The top of the oval is interrupted by the octopus head with eyes, the horizontal line above is interrupted by the octopus mantle.
