Polish president’s office explains why Mussolini, Catherine the Great and Schröder keep Order of the White Eagle

19 hours ago by CAVOK to c/europe

Officials from the office of Polish President Karol Nawrocki have attempted to explain why Poland’s highest state decoration, the Order of the White Eagle – which was stripped from Volodymyr Zelenskyy – is still held by former Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, Russian empress Catherine II (the “Great”) and former German chancellor and “friend of the Kremlin” Gerhard Schröder.

The former German chancellor, meanwhile, has never insulted the Polish nation as overtly as the Ukrainian president has, though his activities in support of Putin's Russia must be condemned as harmful to Poland and Europe," Agnieszka Jędrzak, a minister in the Chancellery of the President of Poland, said.

Let me translate:

Stripping the the Order from Schröder cannot be used by the PiS to raise discord within Poland for their personal gain. Stripping it from Zelenskyy however does.

Motive clear, thanks for elaborating.

I just read the headline and it reads like one of those bar jokes.

Mussolini, Catherine the Great and Schröder (I assume they mean the German ex-chancellor, not my aunt's late pug) walk into a bar. Mussolini goes 'One White Eagle please!'

...

sorry, too hot to come up with the rest, some lemmings please come to the rescue - I promise it has great joke potential!
