Option to move bottom bar menu to top of screen?

a month ago by Meatwagon to c/voyagerapp

Hi, I'm an ungraceful walrus who keeps fat fingering the menu at the bottom of my screen and interrupting what I'm reading and would love an option to have it be moved to the top thanks.

Pic is what I see instead of the post I'm trying to read when I fatfinger it.

Try checking the Webview implementation setting in Android's Developer Options. I had the same problem and it turned out there were two webviews installed and my system was using the extremely outdated one that came with the ROM instead of the modern one from the Play Store.

I'm in the current (I think) Chrome one. Those are the only two options I have. I read it's a bug with android 9/ Galaxy Note 8's not giving the proper identification for the web view or something so it thinks it's wrong.

Your os is severely out of date by nearly 5 years.

Plus 138 was dropped about a year ago.

Your device isn't supported at all anymore sadly.

Edit: it may be worth exploring if a custom rom is available to bring you up to date.

Are you able to update it from this link? They have an annoying habit of dropping support for older versions of Android so you may be SOL.

Are you running a custom ROM? The webviews you can install on stock ROMs are restricted to specific publishers (usually Google and the phone vendor), but LineageOS adds a few extra accepted certificates for FOSS webviews and some ROMs disable the webview signature verification entirely. You may be able to find a modern version that's installable on Android 9 with some searching.

Edit: the Bromite project is sadly long-dead, but they have an excellent writeup of how it all works here.
