Google's New Remote Attestation Scheme is As Bad As Its Old One

a month ago by custom_username to c/degoogle

Google owes its existence to the open web, but today, its technological “innovations” have much to do with locking users into a “walled garden.” The latest of these is “reCAPTCHA Mobile Verification,” an experimental initiative that will let companies block users if they are running independent, "de-googled" versions of Android. These “indie Android” versions are favored by people who want to protect their privacy and their attention by blocking trackers and ads.

lol, that is quite alright... saving me the effort of figuring out what scumbags they are in a less convenient way. I don't want to be doing business with these people anyway.

I was kinda disappointed that the article didn't offer any suggestions for how to "push back" on attestation being shoved down our throats.

...it seems governments and companies are doubling down on attestation, in the form of mandatory age verification.

I'm fully ready to push back (heck I don't have a choice, since my devices don't support this shit), however it's troublesome that most of the population doesn't care because pushing back is inconvenient. I think being a corporate & government slave is more inconvenient, but a lot of people can't connect the dots or see where society is going
