I remember seeing these things everywhere growing up 20+ years ago. Nowadays there are much fewer of them for some reason.
First time at a ski resort, and there are Pepsi ads everywhere. It shouldn‘t be this way

Pretty much every single bar/cafe I see in the Netherlands has these branded parasols, and the vast majority are beer brands (Heineken, Brand, Hertog Jan, Jupiler are all ones I regularly see)
They can probably buy them cheap from the brewery, or the bars are outright owned by the brewery.
I heard this from a bar owner I know, he had the experience with Grolsch that they could freeby him a few kegs of beer once in a while but not give merchandise other than small stuff.
There are companies that give away restaurant furniture for free in exchange for advertising on the table. For a mom and pop restaurant or B&B that is just starting, that furniture is a landline. Most of the time the advertisers are local.
Now, if this is a corpo, wolf lodge, Marriot resort, then yeah, fuck 'em
Soon they'll be broadcasting ads directly into our dreams.
In what country is this ski resort? :)
I've never been to a ski resort, but Levi Ski Resort is all Audi ads:
A good reason to carry markers
I'm sorry but if something so simple like sarcasm or facetiousness makes them uncomfortable then they probably need a life and stop being so freaking sensitive 🤦♀️
Sorry, this might be beacuse of my autism because I didnt understand any implied sarcasm and painted my own feelings regarding strong eye contact "focus" on the imagined interaction.
I still dont understand the motivation or reason to ask for coke and keep eye contact while declaring that pepsi is not okay. The whole situation reads bizarre, especially since the service personnell has no influence over the options of coke or pepsi, nor marketing merchandise use.

We discuss how predatory big tech platforms live and die by luring people in and then decaying for profit.
We also discuss how naturally open technologies like the Fediverse can be susceptible to corporate takeovers, rugpulls and subsequent enshittification.

Ok but this kind of stuff is usually given to the place as promo gifts since they have a contract to supply the drinks.
Those bar ans restaurant owners all over the world aren't always big fans of Heineken, but if they give you Parasols for your terrace in summer, you're gonna put them up.
