Why do you have to be perpetually engaged with a slack chat? Especially in a volunteer group?
You can just ignore notifications. You’re not required by law to look at them asap. Slack in particular is great for configuring that. On mobile I have it set so only @here/@channel/@mes notify me, or direct messages. Otherwise I just ignore it until I want to check on things. Slack also has a built in automatic dnd so outside of business hours you won’t get notified for anything.
because if you're like 25 that's how you live your entire life and you can't accept anyone else could possibly live life another way.
and if you point out that you don't have to live your life that way, you are hateful and ignorant and -ist something or other, e.i. they just call you names.
basically folks have no emotional control and just project their crazy onto the rest of us, rather than... just not being addicted to their phones for everything.
another good example. i will leave my phone at home and go out for hours without it. i have been told by various folks that this is abusive and cruel, or otherwise totally unacceptable and wrong to do, because what if someone (themselves) has to reach me? also that like, not replying to texts/messages in a certain timeframe, is abusive, manipulative, negligent etc.
occasionally i also leave my phone accidental at home and like go to work and don't touch it for 10 hours. weird how the world doesn't implode or end when I do that. i might have a few missed calls or texts.
As usual, young people are idiots 😅 I do the same and go phone free most weekends. (Or check it like 2 times i n case someone needs me) We dont need to be addicted to our phones. These kids cannot survive 5 minutes without it and it broke their brains.
Tech is fine. Addiction is not. This coming from someone with 20+ game systems and 200 steam games lol. And like 6 PCs. Tech and learning is great. Social media billionaire funded brainrot, needs to die.
Even if you guys are right, and im inclined to agree with you, you both sound like smug assholes. Tone down the hate on young people, you were young once too and im sure you were morons just like the rest of us.
also that like, not replying to texts/messages in a certain timeframe
I think one or two days at most can be expect at business days.
I mean, disable notifications, use like email?
Sure, Slack is not a standard and emil is a mess. But otherwise...
that's what i did, and that's made me an asshole. i was not participating in the way you are supposed to participate. you know, being paranoid about every little thing.
computer stuff for computer. typey type on full keyboard with 10 fingers
i ended up getting a portable keyboard for my phone i was writing so much in it. I insist all my keyboards have 10-keys because otherwise i have to hunt and peck for numbers and i have too much ego to do that. but it made writing more fun.
...Use hat does nothing to improve communication nor is it necessary at all..."
That's quite THE claim...
Not saying you're not right on some things, but damn, you're demonstrating now how narcissistic, unsufferable and egolatric you are.
yeah, please keep calling me names.
just like the 25 year old who did the same to me when i didn't want to use slack because everything is about THEIR convenience.
also they think i'm transphobic because I didn't want to wear trans flags pin everyday i volunteered, because I felt no need to incessantly virtue signal how 'woke' I am, especially when 99/100 people involved were cisgendered hetero white people, and the 1 trans person left because they found us so insufferable annoying about them being the token trans person.
because we know, anyone who isn't 110% in agreement with us, is a BAD TERRIBLE PERSON. if they are like only 90% in agreement with us, they must be punished into agreement. and it's not that we are an insufferable asshole trying to impose our bullshit needy whiny standards on other folks who don't need to constantly broadcast how great we are and use the latest greatest app where we can sit there and 'collab' about what victims we are and how anyone who thinks or looks different than us is oppressing and persecuting us. even though these imagined oppressors don't actually ever exist in real life... because we live in a total bubble of rich white liberals who have priced out any diversity from the real community... which makes our virtue signalling all the more important!!! we have to signal harder so that other liberals want to come here and drive prices up further and we call all celebrate the imaginary diversity of our community that we have now ensured is totally heterodox and homogeneous!
sound familiar?
ironically, back before these types of dipshits were the norm, 10+ years ago, the community was actually diverse. weird how that works. we had LGBT folks, non-white folks, old folks, young folks etc. nobody every talked about diversity or communication or any of that shit.
then after 10 years it became college-educated professionals, all white, who were mostly under 30 who spent every meeting lecturing each other about our lack of inclusivity, communication, and community. almost as if... the people who destroyed those things were whining the hardest about we lacked them and how we had to have them... pissing and moaning how they 'struggle' while they work in their 150K+ a year tech jobs and go on months long vacations... yeah clearly it's not them who is the lack of diversity and inclusion they are seeking.
One of the best quality of life changes I made for myself was keeping my phone out of reach from my bed, and reading once I go to bed instead of watching or scrolling stuff online. Disconnecting from the world and just reading a book (be that a physical book or on my e-reader) is such a nice way to wrap up my day. It's quiet and solitary and it's purely my time and I love that
So is big computer desktop or laptop?

This is a place to share greentexts and witness the confounding life of Anon. If you're new to the Greentext community, think of it as a sort of zoo with Anon as the main attraction.
Be warned:
If you find yourself getting angry (or god forbid, agreeing) with something Anon has said, you might be doing it wrong.

i quit a volunteer group i used to hang out with because they insisted we all use slack on our phones so we could communicate 24/7. I was like 'no i want to communicate in person only, or maybe occasionally by email. call me in emergecies'
got a lecture about how this made a boomer who was oppressing folks because using the phone/email is triggering for them and why not just have instant communication and expect instant responses and be perpetually anxious/enraged about the slack channel 24/7... because that's like a better way to communicate about a group that meets like 6 times a month? OK zoomers.
had a few people complain to me later how much they hated having to be on the slack 24/7 and i was like 'yeah that's why i quit, it's horrible to try and force people to use technology that does nothing to improve communication nor is it necessary at all when it's a analog activity.'
