Stop spamming this shit everywhere. This is not how you do music promo.

my dawg, this is a little aggressive, my apologies, but it actually doesn't say that the Canada Community is explicitly news. Which I suppose was my mistake, but it really isn't shit, we are a good band and I am a real person trying to figure out alternative social medias. Thanks for the positive energy, you sound really fun.

They didn't say anything about the community being only for news (and I'm pretty sure it isn't). The complaint is about spam. i.e. posting the same thing multiple times in multiple communities within the span of a few minutes. People browse these communities with all posts aggregated together in one place (e.g. a "subscribed" feed), so for a brief window, they'll see nothing but this.

Okay, that's what I figured it was, I will aim to do better, but honestly, how are your feed parameters my fault?

How would you suggest someone change their feed to avoid this? You posted it twice to Canada@lemmy.ca and twice to Toronto@lemmy.ca, so anyone following either of those communities are guaranteed to see it at least twice. People who follow the latter usually also follows the former. And that's just the posts coming from this one account.

So, I posted one music video.from YouTube and one Spotify link, that is posting the same song twice in one group, granted, I can acknowledge that, but if I cross post, which one has the option to do, and you are following both communities that I cross post to, then how do you suggest I don't spam? Genuinely wondering, because I cannot control which communities someone follows, but I am given the option to cross post? The expectation is that I never cross post and spread my promotions across multiple hours or days to avoid annoying someone who coincidently follows multiple of the same communities I have chosen to post in?

I don't know anything about marketing, so I don't have the answers for that. All I can tell you is why some people dislike what you're doing. It's up to you if you want to continue doing that or figure out something different. For all I know, it might be better for you to just accept the downvotes and continue spamming.

I'd like to avoid spamming so that the things I've worked on don't get down voted for being annoying, and I am genuinely trying to figure out if making multiple posts is actually different than cross posting if someone follows the same communities I'm posting in, so I guess, in that sense, it actually might be worth it to spam for the sake of experimentation, but wow, the negativity is real. Like, when I see something that doesn't especially matter to me, I don't down vote, I just keep scrolling? Idk? 🤷🏼

Cross-posts appear differently depending on your client. I'm using Lemmy as my web client and Boost on Android. Both of them show cross-posts as independent posts. The only difference is that there's a little marker to tell you that it's cross-posted. I think on Piefed, they aggregate the comments from each cross-post. I don't know what they do with the top level post.

You should also know that upvotes and downvotes are public on this platform. It's not a good look when you upvote your own comments like that.
