Full title: Companies are now using your credit history, past-due accounts, browsing data, and social media accounts to figure out the absolute lowest salary you'll accept. Algorithmic wage suppression is being weaponized against workers to destroy wages.

Actually if it was a truly free market it'd be worse, even fewer protections on privacy and wages!

They can try. I know number I'm looking for to move jobs. I won't move for a paycut. If they want me in the office, they need to pay more.

they will wait for you to be fired, then you'll have no choice but to either accept, die, or fight

I'm in the UK. So much less easy to get fired.

Plus, I'm good and they won't be the only company I'm talking to.

So it's okay because you're not the one they're fleecing?

What? Not sure how you interpreted it that way. The point was I maintain my skills and there will be competition so if they low ball me, they can keep looking.

Downvoted. Post a link to the article, not an image of the title.

I really wish mods would remove these garbage posts.

They were doing credit checks for entry level management jobs at the mall 20 years ago. Those jobs barely paid above minimum wage as it was

Which companies?

I know mine doesn’t. We have an overall pool to spend on salaries, that gets broken up by department, and it’s up to the line managers to allocate. This is usually done by comparing to the competitive salary range for the position and then layering on performance indicators for the individual based solely on actual predicted job performance. HR stresses to managers that they are NOT to use outside factors in the determination, but should talk directly with the individual employees if there need to be adjustments to either stay within budget or allocate raises.

Any place that attempted to pull this sort of stunt would be a place that would have to pay me MUCH more for the short time I’d remain working there while looking for new employment.

I work for a large company and they are (or, at least were) open about the fact they they put compensation into a software that everyone in the industry uses, then compare compensation for similar roles across the industry, and determine wages that way. Aka, collude with competitors to keep employee compensation low.

Of course, this year they just decided to keep all the extra money for themselves and give the employees fuck all.

Yay, price fixing that is legal because it happens via a third party. Just like in agriculture and the rental market. How innovative.
