An update on leaving Gmail for Fastmail

2 days ago by RSS Bot to c/hackernews

It's been a few months since my post on leaving Gmail which sparked a lot of discussion on Hacker News. Here's an update on how things have been going after my move to Fastmail.

I left right before they said they were going to let AI read my email, had a 19 year old account. But I moved to Proton with my own domain. That was about a year ago, I have been very happy with Proton email and calendar so far.

Why did you leave Gmail for Fastmail? I see that it’s a few dollars cheaper per user.

I left to stop feeding my personal information and relationships to Google.

Granted, most of my cigars use Gmail so they see it all anyways, but I’m not shitting up the world as much.

I did the same thing about a year ago as a gmail user since the invite days. Fastmail's import from gmail worked great with all my labels and their ability to connect with domains works well. Great app on android and linux. Strongly recommend.
