Viewing avif files

2 months ago by lillardfair to c/boostforlemmy

I can often see thumbnails for avif pics and when I click to view it I just get a black screen. If I long press the pic and click on the link it loads in the browser fine. I've gotten used to this and I can detect it pretty fast now since there's no loading bar at the bottom for these. But is there anything that can be done to get these to load with a single click like other image files?

As far as I know, it's mostly related to HD image loading. There's a setting to disable HD quality in full screen media viewer. Not sure if @rmayayo@lemmy.world knows the details.

You're right, this did work. But it's annoying for any other image I have to hit the HD button for

My instance proxies all the images through an AVIF service so nothing loads with HD enable 🤷‍♂️
