My wife was really into it. She made me go into the room to preform the transaction. I didn't like it. My 6 year old daughter asked me outright if I was the guy putting money under her head and I said yes. She said "I KNEW IT!" and promptly forgot/ignored it because she wanted money.

Yeah, at no point do I recall ever actually believing in the tooth fairy or Santa clause or whatnot, but I do remember playing along with it, not as like a "I like money/gifts" way, but more of a "this is a fun ritual" type of way

As an adult now, I wish I had thought about it more when I was a kid. The Tooth Fairy doesn't have an obvious source of income. Perhaps thats the reason for the paltry offerings. She does, however, seem to have an unusually effective logistical network and a lot of consumer good will. Had I been more perspicacious in my youth, I might have negotiated a contract with a lot more value than just a few dollars per tooth.

For starters, we could have partnered with businesses to distribute a tiny, promotional coupon book for a cut of the sales or even just a flat rate. Every kid gets coupons with their tooth money. That could've netted millions.

Also we could act as courier for high priority mail, provided it's light enough and is going to one of the households with a collectable tooth on that night. Probably not much money there, but it's something.

I don't know what The Tooth Fairy's legal risk tolerance is exactly, but I imagine it's pretty high if she's purchasing human tissue without a license. We could have scanned court records to find people with a predilection for restricted goods that are useful in tiny amounts. She just leaves a note with the first tooth and the parent(s) can leave money with the next tooth if would like a bump of whatever The Tooth Fairy is offering. I assume it would have to go to a different spot in the room from the tooth money so the child doesn't get into it.

I've had a happy life, but this is one of my few regrets, that I didn't better realize the potential of The Tooth Fairy. Que sera and c'est la vie and all that, I guess.

When you're kid you should ask your friends how much they get per tooth and then you just give your teeth to the kid that gets the most and then you can split the profits

**Moderator Guidelines**

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
