What are your thoughts in making content in this instance more visible in search engines via IndexNow? On a technical level, how feasible is this?

Now what about your request, this looks like bing and yandex ? Does it work for Google?
According to this page, Bing and Yandex are some of the biggest engines that have an IndexNow API. Google does not support it as this example index submission URL will return a 404. Note that the key is example.com's key from the IndexNow docs:
https://google.com/indexnow?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.example.com%2Fproduct.html&key=4067b852d9fe4b8b9cf5383330e6427c
Are we lacking in SEO? Do our posts take too long to show up?
It depends on the instance's long-term goals. Speaking for myself, post and comment discovery after searching in Google is how I used to find out that niche communities exist in Reddit in the past. Now, I use a Searx instance as my first choice of search engine. Unfortunately, while Searx has a preference option to include lemmy posts in the results, it is useless in my current experience. That leaves indexed pages in search engines as a secondary method of post (and comment, if feasible) discovery.
Here's what I see if I search for "reddthat" in Bing. There's a result for the home page and a random post from May 2026:

I tried doing an exact keyword search in Bing for the title of this post (I tried to find a top post from the past month that is in a local community) and nothing showed up.
Counterexample would be searching for "reddit". The entire front page is Reddit-related in Bing.

This community is for us to chat about anything and everything, including support topics!
There is no defining specific rules for this community and it can be anything from "I do not like the weather" to "I've won the jackpot and want to give all the money away to charity!" š
Before posting, have you read the rules?
For anything else, try a search and see what turns up, if not post away!

The fediverse is weird with our content duplication. Which is normally harmful for SEO. But I've been out of the SEO business for a while so it's possible now that search engines end up handling this.
This was why originally on all the subdomains we have a dedicated robots txt - https://reddthat.com/robots.txt vs https://old.reddthat.com/robots.txt To ensure that we don't have duplicate content across our subdomains which would hurt SEO (or what normally happens, is "old" would become the default or rank higher due to it being more text heavy and less JS heavy so it loads faster.
But LW and other more "popular" instances could very well end up being the default as they might have more Authority.

Currently we'd need to build something, maybe like LemmyWebhook and then write some logic so that only when a new post that is on a local community & not NSFW, do we send the request.
But considering our low post count, we could probably get away with a daily cron task which gets the list and sends it as a batch. Which would be less of a change and easier.
But, I guess the question is should we? Are we lacking in SEO? Do our posts take too long to show up?
