I have bought this on temu

My kindle screen got damaged and I don't find a place to repair it; here at the third world(I'm from Colombia). I decided to buy this baby on temu, it hasn't arrived yet and it seems like delayed in transit, however I was wondering if you had trice devices different than kindle, Kobo, pocketbook. As a Foss enthusiasm, I like an open software such as android instead Amazon. When I had tried to get out my books from my kindle, it didn't let me, by USB the epubs weren't epubs anymore, that's the reason why I don't buy kindle anymore. Has you tried an Android device with e-ink technology? I think that it will be the future

android e-readers have been around for ages and personally i don't think it's a good fit. it's way too power-hungry. with the low battery life and overabundance of features, you're basically buying a tablet with a slow screen. i want my reading to be a focused experience.

to my delight, my kobo just ran a custom linux distribution from factory, and has its system on an sd card. all config is in plain text, installing applications is just drag-and-drop, and the only modification i had to do was add a user and create a fake book (a desktop icon) for each program.

I think your second paragraph highlights why android ereaders have some fans. It's not so much that android is a great solution, but it does mean that you aren't locked into the vendors OS and therefore store.

I self-host my eBook/comic library and so most ereaders won't work with that or are a little persnickety.

on the other hand, the open os meant i could just make one of the shortcuts point to koreader.

Support is definitely getting better regarding all of that. I just sent up a OPDS service to Audiobookshelf to be able to get books on one of my ereaders.

Next step is setting up some method to sync reading progress, but one step at a time.

I have a Boox device, which also runs android. The fact that I can run Mihon on it is awesome.

Yeah, I've got one of the small boox. Runs android, something like ten or eleven? I think.

It does okay despite the weak ram amount. I use moon+ for all my android reading as long as it'll work. And it does fine on that one. Notably, it does better than the native boox reader by a big margin, particularly with a big library.

You get a little lag switching between books, and some tiny flicker switching pages, but it's otherwise quite nice. I prefer it to my older kobo for sure, and it ancient nookHD for sure. But I still prefer reading on a regular tablet with a decent screen overall because it's easier to get a dark (but not black) background with white text, which is what my eyes prefer.
