Documents from CIA program to settle Nazi war criminals in Canada ordered released by judge

The records involve a U.S. program set up after the Second World War to secretly settle large numbers of Nazi war criminals in Canada, often with the support of Canadian officials.

Offtopic: Comrade Rat, !Canada isn't taken over by right-wing nuts like Reddit's /r/Canada. Posting there reaches more of us. 😁

Ha! Old habits of engaging with the r/Canada only if necessary šŸ˜‚

But I'm definitely hoping and trying to foster that !onguardforthee@lemmy.ca would be as leftist and lively as it's reddit counterpart.

It's good to know our own history and also so we don't mistakenly applaud fascists in our parliament again, or if they want to run for public offices, or pass regressive bylaws, or if their descendants are part of certain separatist movements.

That's why this is specific to war criminals.

I don't have a horse in this race, but "sins of our fathers" is a pretty problematic argument for tracking/flagging someone imo.

Are any of these people even still alive?

I feel like being part of a supremacist movement today becomes the sins of the individual rather than the father, and unfortunately, Canada has a few of those around at the moment.

And, yes, they can be alive today. Our MPs unknowingly applauded a Nazi collaborator in Parliament a couple of years back.
