Always a noob

As you accumulate hours, you don't make less mistakes, your mistakes just become bigger and more complicated.

Finally got around to firing up Space Age after buying it at launch. Went to my first planet and it felt like going back to square one again. Highly recommended.

They really did a great job of giving each planet unique mechanics so that you aren't just stamping down the same builds over and over.

it was gleba wasnt it?

My theory is that putting items on a belt and getting different items off at the other end just breaks people's brains.

You need to do Gleba twice, once fumbling your way through and once going in with some idea what you're doing. My first Gleba base was awful. The second time I decided I liked Gleba after all.

Ha! I wish! It was Fulgora (the easy one!) Can't wait to have my brain melted by Gleba next...

Done 2 space age runs, first on death world - pentapods were crazy to deal with. Both slow progress from learning it and also death world sped up their evolution. In the end I had a chunk wide wall blueprint and beat them with brute force and mass production. Frequently had 100s of buildings destroyed. It didn't matter, I was building hundreds of turrets too.

The intro to all quiet on the western front sums up the feeling of that run. The losses were heavy, but fresh replacements always came.

My second run was a speedrun attempt to get the achievement, made loads of saves as I went and managed to get it with quite a lot of time to spare. Used sandbox a lot to make blueprints.

Just turns out you improving your green circuit build caused your red build to run out of plastic which when fixed caused a shortage of sulphuric acid which crashes the blue build

Try playing multiplayer with your kid, you'll make something great only to realize all the materials are being diverted to making chests of trains.

Edit: I want to state that I love this, as frustrating as it may be. Watching a 10 year old grasp factorio and optimize in... Different... ways is really awesome. It's kind of the end run of factorio, I created a little one to do the factory.

Just think of your kid as one of those randomizer mods.

It took me 300 hours and probably a dozen maps before I launched my first rocket

Learned a lot about myself. Like how I let perfect be the enemy of good - building scalable assemblers for each product that use perfect ratios takes up a lot of material, space, and has a higher cognitive load

But spaghetti pleases the heart

I launched a rocket in my first game. It was very spaghetti. I had to run over and manually unblock fluids every hour or so.

One of my favourite things is coming back to an old set up and realizing a mistake ~a month later.

I play Europa Universalis 4, a historical political simulator that has gameplay starting on 11 Nov, 1444. The joke on the sub reddit was that you were a noob until you played at least 1,444 hours.

I've surpassed 1,820 hours (the end year of the game) now and still feel like a noob sometimes

  1. How have you found EU5 to be? I took a break from it because I got annoyed at managing my dynasty once it got to like 50 people or so.

  2. what's your craziest EU4 run? I once did an angvian empire run where I had force converted so much of the HRE that Anglicanism became the official faith following the League wars, and they elected me emperor.

  1. I actually haven't gotten 5 yet, heard it had the classic Paradox rough launch so I'm waiting for a year or two of polish. And I still have a few campaigns planned out in 4.

  2. I'm currently on an Aragon peasant republic > Spain > roman republic run, learning to balance multiple offset coalitions for the first time has been a cool challenge. Other than that, had a Teutonic horde run was really fun.

Been eyeing up an angivan run for a while now, that might push me into it!

Yeah, rough is correct, but it does have some promise.

I haven't done the Aragon republic yet... Good idea!

"I'll fix it later" - a lie you tell yourself after you spilled your latest plate of spaghetti all over your factory.
