Well, since it was a cop, I'll give the dog a pass this time.

Poor dog probably feared for his life, since cops kill dogs all the time.

Assuming pit bulls are inherently dangerous is no different than assuming a certain type of people is inherently dangerous.

border collies herd, pointers point, no one teaches these dogs to do these things. It's what they were bred for, its in their nature and instincts. But bring up how pitbulls were bred for aggression and they have an instinct for violence and out come the hysterics.

No one is breeding people for certain traits (at least, not anymore). Meanwhile, we breed all sorts of animals for specific factors. Making the comparison of "animal vs person" utterly devoid of brain mass.

An ER doctor mentioned that they see more dog bites from things like retrievers and sheppards, but the Pit Bull bites are always more severe or deadly with so much tissue damage.

The breed related part is how damaging they are.

My kid had two. One was a complete softy sweetheart, the other one mauled their cat to death one day (after years of living together) and lunges for other dogs. But either one I wouldn't want to have bite me

Dog bite severity varies by the breed of dog, and studies have found that pit bull–type dogs have both a high rate of reported bites and a high rate of severe injuries, compared to other non–pit bull–type dogs.

Pit bull–type dogs are extensively used in the United States for dogfighting, a practice that has continued despite being outlawed. Several nations and jurisdictions restrict the ownership of pit bull–type dogs through breed-specific legislation.

The sole goal for this comm is to ban pit bulls from every jurisdiction and to treat the remaining ones with respect while every caretaker follows the required safety precautions to keep everyone safe. Dog breeds with documented health issues should also be prevented from being forcibly bred into this world.

Rules:

  1. Keep it civil.

  2. No advocating for violence.

  3. No pit bull advocate gaslighting. Though good faith debates are allowed.
