Getting scrutinized on Reddit.

a month ago by TheOrcWhoWrites to c/rant

I posted a comment, complimenting a fellow artist and a commenter turned it into an ordeal. I ended up getting massively downvoted. Why tf do I even need reddit? It's much more friendly on Lemmy.

For context, I thought someones work was professional but they called themselves a beginner. I thought they could sell it. Most of the other commenters thought it was intermediate at best and told me I was stifling the skills of said OP by telling them they are professional. 'Why don't you let them grow their skill?' they proclaimed. SMH. I just wanted to give a compliment. Toxicity. I usually have good compliments for people to build them up.

What were they comparing it to. I still thought it was pretty professional. C'mon. That was ridiculous.

Rant over.

You don’t. Honestly, I have been thinking the same thing about myself and I assume it is more a habit and/ or addiction to use reddit at this point.

If you want to use Reddit and see some of the subreddits you follow, perhaps try to use RSS?

Reddit as a whole has become much more toxic, hateful and agressive. All that meanwhile the content is significantly decreasing in value, it is much more reposts of the same things than actual new and enjoyable things.

I feel like I get more respect on here. There are always outliers.

IDK if you were an old reddit user, but I can't recommend https://old.lemmy.world/ skin enough. Really helped me break the reddit habit. Because lets be honestly, it was just a habit and muscle memory taking me back there.

I deleted all my comments but kept my account just in case they try to recover them so I can delete them again, then I logged out and haven't looked back.

I'll give the same advice I give in all the reddit migration threads, try changing your default sort to "Active" or "New Comments" and that is where all the conversations are happening.

Reddit only matters to me for art sharing and the writing prompts subreddit. Other than that, I keep distance. I am on Lemmy more.
