Thirty years after doctors removed her gonads, this woman finally has answers

When Linda Brodie gave birth to her baby, it was a "joyous moment", but a decision made soon after to undertake surgery changed her daughter's life.

Stephanie Saal has lived with a series of what-ifs since doctors carried out irreversible surgery on her as a baby that she believes reduced her chances of having children.

She was born in 1995 with an intersex variation: a term that can include a range of genital, hormonal and chromosomal variations that do not reflect a typical male or female body and affects 1.7 per cent of births.

how come the article refers to ovaries directly (not 'female gonads') but to testicles as 'male gonads' or just 'gonads' throughout?
