I love how a lot of the comments in the articles (there are others) are saying things like "don't file, I want a bigger payout" or some variation thereof, like the difference between $95 (what it can be up to) and $25 (the minimum everyone's gonna get regardless) is gonna break you, yet you can afford a $1000+ phone every couple years (the iPhone 16 series launched in September 2024). "No, Karen, we don't care you upgraded from a 5c, you still have a newer iPhone than most people."
If you can get it, get it.
Pro tip: if you have a Mac, you don't need to read the serial number of your iPhone, per se. Go to Settings → About like the article said, but long-press the serial and choose Copy. Now on the Mac, ⌘+V and it'll paste, right from the iPhone. Biggest advantage of the ecosystem IMO — when it fucking works! For text, though, its success rate is almost 100%. Hell, I've copied 10GB+ files on my Mac, gone into Files on my iPhone, long-pressed an empty space, and hit Paste. Now granted it took a few minutes (dialogue box said "Pasting from iPhone"), but it wasn't as long a wait as I would have expected, as it automated an AirDrop (or something like that — I think it's more accurate to say AirDrop and Universal Clipboard just use the same protocol).
