I built a small Mac app that puts your windows back when you reconnect a monitor

19 days ago by deepakraj to c/macos

Unplug a monitor and macOS piles your windows onto the laptop. Resettle remembers where every window goes on each setup and puts it back. $14.99 once.

Hi. I made this for the thing where you unplug your monitor and every window ends up on the laptop, and plugging back in doesn't put them back.

Resettle is a menu bar app that learns where your windows go on each display setup (laptop only, home, office, clamshell) and puts them back when that setup comes back. Nothing to save. Tells identical monitors apart by serial, and every restore can be undone.

Upfront: it's paid, $14.99 once, no subscription, not open source. Native Swift, macOS 14 through 27.

If you'd rather try the free options first, I wrote up what macOS can do on its own: https://getresettle.com/...

Happy to hear where it breaks, especially with DisplayLink docks or KVMs.

Human written? Or vibe coded?

i did vibe code it. I initially made it for myself and then published for everyone else. this is my first mac app. got the expensive developer license as well.

I use it everyday so its well tested and had close eyes on it.

i think i should put real window graphics , images on site to give more picture

i did vibe code it

If it's full of code stolen without respecting all the licences, you don't mind if someone posts the binaries for free on the internet?

i dont really mind if you extract binaries, bypass licenses and put a patch. thats not the point.

i dont see reason of ur backlash if its vibecoded

That's the whole point. You pretend you wrote an application, then you sell it knowing that the code comes from OSS.

I would never do that for my own code. It's shameful and makes people stupid.

stay is fine. agreed.

written by humans / AI what you wanna say here? you're saying human code is better than AI? are you saying the code matterns? not the end user experience?

everyone has their preferences. free or paid. whats the difference. some users pay for it some like the free ones.

also stay was last updated in 2025. it doesnt makes it bad. I made mine feel more native as per the latest macos 27.0 UI/UX

You really need to stop saying that you made this. You had it made and are now marketing it.

You also don’t really possess the knowledge to claim what APIs are being used or make draw the conclusion that Swift is better than Objective-C. The AI might.

all? you talk like you never would pay for AI

so problem which I faced was if you switch between different monitors - work / home for example. all windows used to reset to mac. that what it solves

Here’s why people are shitting on you for vibe coding:

  • You do not know how your own app works

  • If it breaks and AI can’t fix it, you’re out of luck

  • If you have coding skills, they are atrophying when you do not write the code yourself. Vibe coding is not coding.

  • You used stolen code to write this and then had the audacity to charge for it

  • Your responses are all hyperbolic when called out on vibe coding

And before you call me out, I’ve been a developer for 20+ years. Never used AI to generate a single line of code. Never intend to.

You used stolen code

accept it or not. you're part of the same ecosystem. sooner or later. you have been part of this. you can't change the world with your ideology.

Your responses are all hyperbolic

you fail to perceive the depth of the world

I am absolutely not part of the ecosystem. I do not use AI. For anything. Ever.
