Righting old wrongs: MobyGames on letting developers claim games they weren't credited for

Data is power, and the Atari-owned firm has a raft of plans to empower users and keep the industry accountable

Cases of people being left off game credits are well documented, and the new function potentially allows users to claim titles for which they are otherwise uncredited. However, it could also potentially open up MobyGames to bad actors, who claim credit for games they never worked on. To stop that, the firm has rolled out a verification process.

“When it comes to making sure that credit history is reflected appropriately, the actual way that we do credits and credit verifications has not changed.”

… So with regards to developers being able to ‘right the wrongs’ of going uncredited, nothing has actually changed.

You still need to verify by providing either internal credit docs or screenshots/videos of in-game credits, which often don’t exist or - in the case of games that were shut down - are no longer accessible.
