No grandstanding or pushing of any agenda.

In chronological order of control:

  • Roman Empire/Byzantium
  • Sassanid Empire
  • Umayyad Caliphate
  • Abbasid Caliphat
  • Fatimid Caliphat
  • Seljuk Empire
  • Crusaders and Mameluks
  • Ottoman Empire
  • United Kingdom
  • Israel/Palestine

So basically constant Muslim controlled territory until the UK came in

Also curious of this. Seems like one of those topics where every point of view is going to want to paint a motivated picture but I want to see life there as it was.

UK had domain over them like India, didn't they?

The UK did, but Palestine was different than the more extractive treatment of India.

The British basically picked Jews as the minority to give power to but were far more hands off. Zionist groups used the time and power to immigrate to Israel and establish themselves as the dominant ethnic group. When the British left, Zionist Jews were able to solidify their holdings by having a well trained and supplied army.

It was a colonial possession for a long time, so the region wasn't the most wealthy. The area was incredibly diverse, with various Islamic, Christian, and Jewish groups living next to each other. A lot of local politics was clan based, with heads of families handling a lot of dispute resolution and internal welfare. The various peoples generally practiced a form of Zeus's Law from the Odyssey, extremely hospitable to outsiders.

You have to be specific (rule 2). This is a very general question.
