Anthropic quietly set up a biology lab, which would track with this.

Currently just for pharmaceuticals. But mark my words — synthetic biology is going to be one of the next Torment Matrix endeavours of Silicon Valley. And it'll have so much more fuck up potential than AI.

I think we've been way too fast and loose with medical science in the past like 50 years though, that there's much better regulation than just piracy.

Like the fact they we don't commonly have people 'branded' with cooperate chemical fuck ups is honestly a sign of the times

I highly recommend the podcast episode by Rob Reid and Sam Harris about synthetic biology. Especially if you like existential anxiety.
