Nobody told you that was going to happen.

Most of this we learned in school though, so maybe this is just your local (american?) school system lacking?

Yeah, most of this I did learn in school. Not the last bit, but the parts about the placenta ripping out and the uterus contracting was definitely in my books. As was postnatal depression, and sleep deprivation.

I went to American schools growing up, can confirm. I was lucky enough to be in a fairly modern part of the country and the sex ed was well intentioned and we got more than one year of it - but matresence was never a topic.

True, the term matrescence is new to me as well, but all the underlying "features" it encompasses are things we saw in school at least.

Not American. We did have a (rudimentary) section on reproductive anatomy in high school biology, but it didn't really go through the full process of pregnancy, childbirth, and the physiological effect it has on the body.

Oh, and the teachers skipped it completely in biology class because they didn't want to deal with a class full of teenagers snickering their way through it, I guess. We were told to just read the textbook.

Also for clarity I'm not blaming you for the title, it's what she's saying in the vid and I agree it's not talked about enough, I'm just being pedantic Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

im canadian we didnt learn shit about any of the things after birth. Im not even joking it feels like we skipped the entire 'after birth' chapter of sex ed....it was weird.

....yiiiikes we completely skipped this part of sex ed and the birth process. It didnt even enter my mind how devasating it would be to expand your uteri to lile 15 x its origonal size, hold a whole human being, push out a whole human, rip a chunk of your uteri out, and then have to heal from all of that sometimes without maternity leave... . until I saw this....so thanks πŸ«‚πŸ‘πŸΏ

And the worst part is that some women get accidentally pregnant AGAIN in the midldle of that healing process and most of them dont even have abortion rights πŸ₯ΊπŸ«‚ When will we change that?!
