The 38,000 testimonies are the largest body of evidence about children’s experiences in these institutions. The women say survivors should choose what happens to their histories — both painful and illuminating

disinheritance is literally written in my dna -- 88% since i'm 2/3rds native american and almost 1/5 sub-saharan african, so the only links i have my true ancestory are unintentionally condescending stories from my maternal great grandmother told me about her father taking her to native american religious ceremonies as a child; my father coaching me how to address my grandmother using the few nahuatl affectations that he knew from childhood that spanish didn't fully erase; and a catholic baptismal record of her younger brother provided by the mormon tabernacle in utah.

it fucks with your head in strange ways not to be able to trace your lineage back through the centuries and have things like streets, neighborhoods, buildings, etc. named after relations and -- besides oral traditions -- this is probably the closest thing that these people have to being able to do the same thing,

once it's gone, it's gone for good and not even the people themselves will be aware of it and something about that knowledge vacuum allows for false anti-native narratives to take its place like it did with my great grandmother and my father.

i bet that the same thing will happen to the palestinians so it's fitting that the anglosphere is doing it to canada's indigenous people like it's doing in palestine rn.
